Famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright was born in Wisconsin in 1867. Many of the buildings and homes Wright designed are located in Wisconsin. The SC Johnson headquarters building in Racine Wisconsin is an example of one of Wright’s commercial designs. This building includes a very large and spacious open area with great columns and plenty of glass as architectural and structural features, this room is know as the Great Workroom. In addition to the SC Johnson commercial building, Wright also designed a grand estate for the Johnson family know as Wingspread in Wind Point Wisconsin. This large home is designed in the prairie school house style and it is the largest house of this style in Wright’s design collection. It features many natural materials common in Wright’s designs. These materials include stucco, brick, limestone and unstained wood. Probably the most famous Wright design in Wisconsin is Taliesin. Taliesin is another grand estate designed by Wright that sits on 800 acres of ground along the Wisconsin River. Taliesin was completed in 1911 and has been rebuild twice since then due to fire damage. There are a number of daily tours that are available at the Taliesin estate. The AD German Warehouse is another Wright structure in Wisconsin. This building once housed commodities such as tobacco, grains, sugar, coffee and flour. Today the AD German Warehouse is home to a gift shop, a theater and art exhibit displaying various architectural works produced by Wright.
Maybe it’s time to plan that motorcycle riding trip to Wisconsin.
