Many of the motorcycles on display at the Guggenheim Museum were extremely rare and priceless examples of some of the most important motorcycles in the history of motorcycling. Not only did those motorcycles have to get moved from where they were to the Guggenheim Museum, after the display was finished they needed to be moved back to where they had come from.
Similarly, there are numerous motorcycle auctions that occur throughout the year in various parts of the country. All of those motorcycles need to be moved from where they are to the auction facility. After the auction those motorcycles need to be moved to their new home. The logistics of motorcycle transport can sometimes be quite complicated especially when you are dealing with rare and expensive classic motorcycles. The last thing you want to do after buying that special motorcycle at auction is to have it damaged while in transit. If you go with a motorcycle specific transporter the chance of a damage claim is greatly diminished because their drivers ship thousands of bikes each year.
These motorcycle owners, buyers and sellers don’t want to trust their motorcycle shipping requirements to just any company that moves various items. They look for motorcycle specific transport companies like we use that have the right kind of equipment and training for handling rare motorcycles. They don’t want a freight company handling their motorcycle shipment, they don’t want a household goods mover to handle their motorcycle shipment either and neither should you.
Some people think you can have a car shipper move a motorcycle because after all, they are both vehicles. That is not necessarily the case. Car shippers mainly use open trailers to transport cars. Motorcycle specific shippers mainly use enclosed trailers to transport motorcycles. We never recommend shipping a motorcycle on an open trailer for a long distance because of the possibility of a damage or theft claim. All the shippers that we refer our customers to use enclosed trailers and they have the right kind of equipment to handle motorcycle shipments.
The motorcycles specific shippers that we work with have their trailers rigged specifically for handling motorcycle shipments. There are special tie-downs that motorcycle shippers use that are quite different than what car shippers use. The motorcycle shipping companies that we work with have well-trained drivers and damage claims are very few and far between because they are in the business of transporting motorcycles, most of them for decades. You want to trust your motorcycle shipment to an experience motorcycle transporter who specializes in motorcycle shipping. You would be taking a risk transporting with a freight company, a household goods company or a car shipping company to ship a motorcycle.
